I Just Wanna Wear A Top Hat, OK?

My Halloween night costume is my long awaited dream of justifying why I purchased a $25 top hat from an antique store last year. It has been sitting so pretty in my closet that I cannot wait to bust it out!!! Fashion photographer Dewey Nicks, did a very innovative shoot once with models posing in the desert with top hats on. When I saw this spread ( I believe it was in ELLE) I immediately thought HALLOWEEN NEXT YEAR, get it. I unfortunately can't find pictures online of this shoot and am way to lazy to scan the copies I have of it :) So instead, here are some pictures of three very fabulous ladies wearing top hats.
Beyonce, looking FAB.

Bridgette Bardot, looking FAB.

Josephine Baker, looking like a BOSS.

So that is my inspiration for my costume. Of course, I have to add a delightful twist to this look or it just wouldn't be Kandiss Dee. I am going to attempt to do a combination of the two hats below.

Decorating my hat is going to be the easy part. Now trying to find what I want to wear with the hat is the real challenge. I am thinking of doing a form fitting turtle neck with high-waisted shorts, black nylons, and patent stiletto's . Visualize with me now...

I have the shoes, I just need to find all the other mess. Off to the mall I go, which is going to be HE double hockey sticks because its FRIDAY.  But I am still in good spirits because it's HALLOWEEN!!!

Girls Will Be Ghouls...

Or in my case a Barbie or chick wearing a top hat. Which is what my final costume decisions have boiled down to. I wanted to be a mermaid but didn't have time to hit the gym as much as I would've liked to :/  And besides, it's going to be crazy cold this weekend... So I have two costumes lined up this year for Saturday night and Monday night.

My Saturday night costume is inspired by Rachel Roy's 2009 Fall Fashion Week's opening look, Barbie.

My version is a lil bit different.
Found this dress at Forever 21 for $24.80.
And this textured cardigan for $30.
I already have a pair of Jessica Simpson pink pumps but I can't find a picture online to reference. So I found these hot pink pumps at lulu*s for $29, which are pretty similar to mine.

How STUNNING is Katy Perry in this picture? This will be the finish to my look!! Plus a butt-load of costume jewelery I am going to get at Sam Moon today. So go an get started girls and boys! You still have time to get your classic Barbie look together!

Delightful Halloween Hard-Boiled Eggs...and they're easy too!

Today I had a half day at work. Usually my days start around 1 and I don't get back home till 10 or 11, but today was an early day and I was done by noon!!! I usually never have free afternoons, so I  FINALLY had time to do a Halloween craft. I kinda killed two birds with one stone with this craft... but that's a good thing over here. My boyfriend and I eat hard-boiled eggs on the daily and I remembered my girl Martha had done a show about decorating hard-boiled eggs for Halloween. Here's a link to the article on her website, for the tl;dr crowd this is what they looked like:

Mine do not look a thing like this. I wish they did but I decided to let Martha shine with her little bewitched, bejeweled overachiever hard-boiled eggs. My eggs are for the more modest, gotta have dinner done by six crowd.

I just used Sharpies and it literally took me about 30 minutes. Minus the Punisher egg though, I did that just for my boyfriend because he's going to be so stoked to find it packed away in his lunch tomorrow. That darn egg took me about 45 minutes to do...girlfriend of the year award please!

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls Costume Ideas Part-I

I love the movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, big hair, murder, comedy, music, and boobs galore! But my favorite thing about this movie has to be the outfits! I personally don't go to Halloween stores to buy prepackaged costumes. I like to go to different stores and piece together my outfit to give a personal touch that only I will be seen in. I also purchase items I can wear after Halloween that fit into my daily wardrobe.

So this outfit may appear incredibly random, but if you've seen the movie it might look quite familiar. I found the dress and shoes at lulus.com and the shades at forever21.com. The complete outfit runs you at about $100 which is what a prepackaged costume would cost. Only this costume you can wear outside of Halloween.

This last outfit/costume idea has nothing to do with Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, I'm random like that. Dress and thigh-highs from lulu*s, shoes from forever21.com. The witches hat I randomly found on google search (because every girl should have a spare witches hat packed away in the closet).

I still have yet to "officially" decide what I am dressing up as!!!

Keep it Classy Halloween

We are going this evening to pick out some pumpkins. We usually just paint our faces on each pumpkin, then carve them out on Halloween Eve. But I found these pumpkins today and fell in love! Hopefully I can find some white pumpkins, if not I'll just paint them.

Sticking to the white decor theme I also found some creepy doll-head candles. I'm not sure where they are from but I imagine they'd be quite easy to make if you're crafty like that.
Lastly, I have ALWAYS wanted to dress up like a ghost for Halloween. It would be so fun if Matt and I did this costume (his in black) and remained incognito all night.

Alright , I'm fixin to make some wassel for the pumpkin patch trip. Which is funny because it's 85 degrees outside...but whatever I'm in the mood for some cold weather adult drinks.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY!

I am really excited for this weekend because I will actually be able to have time to try some recipes out, decorate a pumpkin, and finish decorating my apartment! I am however very sad that I can't make it to my little sisters baby shower :( Hope she's not reading this because it's supposed to be a surprise and was just planned the other day which is why I'm unable to make it. But if she is, I'm just kidding Megan, you're not having a baby shower...

Moving on, I found a couple of cute Halloweenie type things that I will definitely be purchasing/making this weekend. Enjoy!

Funny thing is, these shot glasses have a limit of 6 per household. Not cool!

Hallow-Mickey

So, I didn't make a ghoustly pizza. But I will this weekend! Instead I remembered how my mom always let me watch Mickey Mouse the Haunted House, like everyday until Halloween. I actually used to think this movie was really scary!

Slipping on the Halloween

This is going to be a super fast/random post about cool Halloween stuff. I was pretending to work today and found some really cute Halloween type thingy's.
This shaw is super cute. I wouldn't wear it, but I'd compliment someone that did.

A spine candle! How fun!
Ichabod Crane!!!!! Love this idea! I read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow last night. Never EVER gets old.

I'm supposed to make a "ghostly" pizza tomorrow night for my boyfriend because he's a brat and said I "NEED" to. We shall see.

Playboy's Halloween Spooktacular!

I am a big fan of The Girls Next Door (Holly, Bridgette, Kendra). Even more so because they, included Hef, are big fans of Halloween. I own every season and I love watching the Halloween extras for each season. I love how they glam up simple Halloween ideas. This is a very funny clip from Season One, where they have a medium come in to look for ghost!

This clip makes me miss the original cast so much! But anywho, tomorrow I am going to try and do a detailed post on specific themes and whatnot for Halloween. Because this weekend has been way too busy for me to really sit down and figure out what I want to do. Sorry, I am being delightfully lazy :/

First Night of Halloween!

I am going to try my darndest to do a new post the entire month of October. Halloween is my ultimate favorite holiday, and I seriously do wish I was five years old again so I could where a costume everyday until the 31st. Because I'm an "adult" now, I'll just make post about costume ideas, party themes,  ghostly drink ideas, and whatever else I can find that relates to Halloween until the magical night appears before us!

Hocus Pocus! Ya' Know the movie? The three resurrected evil witched would be the hottest outfit  for three best friends. Obviously revved up a bit! I am an avid believer in the following Mean Girls quote:

"Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."

This is so true. I can make any movie character, icon, or public figure a little more risque for Halloween. Have fun with your ideas!!!! I'll post some places tomorrow where you can find pieces to bring this costume to light.

Delightfully yours,

Kandiss Dee
